How Can I Connect My Phone To My Honda CR-V?
By Product Expert | Posted in Honda CR-V, Technology on Thursday, November 16th, 2017 at 9:30 pmIn this age of smartphones, automakers like Honda are building more and more connectivity options into their vehicles. If you are wondering "How can I connect my phone to my Honda CR-V?" there are several options. Models of the 2017 and 2018 Honda CR-V come standard with a USB audio interface and Bluetooth® connectivity. Starting in the EX trim, which comes standard with the seven-inch Display Audio touchscreen infotainment system, both Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ integration is available. Keep reading this blog to walk through each of these connectivity options.
USB Interface on a Honda vehicle
The USB audio interface on a 2018 Honda CR-V allows drivers and passengers to listen to specific music files through the speakers of the vehicle. Not all devices or music files will work, but this is a decent option to explore if you don't have a Bluetooth capable smartphone, or would rather not use it.
How to use Bluetooth on your Honda CR-V
- While your car is in park, but running, go to "Settings" and then "Phone" on your Display Audio system. You should then be able to choose the Bluetooth® Device List.
- Your phone will either show up, or you will have to add it by hitting "Add Bluetooth® Device". (Be sure that the Bluetooth® on your phone is enabled).
- Either choose your phone when it appears on the list, or try to find your Honda CR-V via the Bluetooth® on the phone
After your phone and your vehicle are connected via Bluetooth®, you will be able to take advantage of many other features. We have embedded a video from Honda that walks you through many of these steps on the 2016 Honda CR-V. While not exactly the same as currently available new CR-V vehicles, the information should still be helpful.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Connection Steps
- Download the correct vehicle integration app onto your smartphone (Apple CarPlay for iPhones and Android Auto for Android phones)
- With your car running (but parked) make sure your Display Audio system is on
- Connect your compatible iPhone or Android phone to the Honda CR-V infotainment system via the USB connector labeled with a phone icon.
- When you go to the Home screen, the correct icon should show up, and you will be able to use the appropriate app to integrate your phone and vehicle.
